Hollywood coming to Malaysia

Los Angeles-based award winning visual effects studio, Rhythm and Hues Studio, will be setting up a high-tech studio on par with its LA studio in Malaysia.

With more than 100 feature films to its credit such as Babe, The Hulk, The Golden Compass, The Chronicles of Narnia and Night In The Museum, Rhythm is internationally recognised as one of Hollywood's top visual effects and animation facilities.

"Rhythm is not outsourcing or doing back office work in Malaysia. The work done here will be the same sort of thing being done in LA. The Malaysian studio will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rhythm in the US,” said Rhythm senior advisor Shahril Ibrahim.

“For instance, while shooting a film, the lighting is done in Mumbai, the animation in Kuala Lumpur and the visual effects in LA. So it’s a very collaborated effort which is broken up into task groups.”

The studio in Malaysia will be Rhythm’s third outside of the US. It also has studios in Mumbai and Hyderabad. Presently, there are 300 people in the India outfit.

Shahril said Rhythm was in need of a third studio and had looked at a few countries.

Malaysia was chosen because of Multimedia Development Corp’s (MDec) support for its sort of work, he said. Cost was another huge factor, apart from the big pool of students studying multimedia in Malaysia.

“We did get some incentives from MDec, but it’s minor support things,” he said.

Rhythm’s present primary need is talent, and it is looking to hire 200 to 225 skilled workers. The studio is expected to be running by year-end, with 40 recruits for a start.

In the process of film and animation, Shahril said the Malaysian studio would initially be more involved with background works. After the necessary training (three to six months of in-house training) , it will start moving into animation works. Most of Rhythm’s technology is its own proprietary software.

“Rhythm is creating high end jobs. The next best equivalent of Rhythm is probably Lucas Films Ltd Studio in Singapore. So it’s definitely a coup for Malaysia. The Malaysian studio will be doing Hollywood work. So Malaysians get a chance to be involved in the making of an international movie. For instance, the Indian studio did parts of The Hulk, Narnia and The Golden Compass,” said Shahril.

He added that Rhythm had no plan to enter the Malaysian movie industry.

Rhythm has already identified Cyberjaya for the studio.

“Putting the technical elements into the studio is not dificult. The main priority is to recruit and train people. Rhythm is cautious because it wants to hire people which are culturally Rhythm.

“In Rhythm, we’re very open and transparent. Its not truly hierarchical, it’s more matrically in culture,” said Shahril.

Rhythm is a privately owned company which makes about US$100mil a year in revenue.

Hmm...Another job prospect, but if I were to apply, I will not apply to be a 3D animator anymore, maybe a creative management level sort of thing such as HOD (Head of Department).

The missing Link

1 blogger less in this rows of bloggers in my residential area. I wonder who removed the link as the person must be one of the administrator of this website.

Or is it a technical error, I wish the administrator would explained the situation. Or is it the posting that the missing blogger wrote that the administrator doesn't like?

To the administrator, I think you have to get the consent of all the admin of the website before trying to unlink the missing blogger link. And some wise guys said that the site automatically deleted the blog link that is not updated for along time..hmm I think the blog updated very frequently. One of the admin also said that the blog comment have to be open...hmm I donno but a moderated comments have always maintain a healthy environments for the website or do you like to read vulgar and personal attack arguments.

Well I think that one of the administrator is abusing his power of admin and simply deleted blogger link that he doesn't like. My advise is stop abusing the power that have been given to you 'cause if not you will be not be as democratic and freedom as you always shout about!

Jalan-jalan Cari Makan - Lanz's Version 2.0

Next we went to Le Chateau de Puah..quite frenchy the name but using "de" remind me of Kelantan..u know cars from Kelantan displays the initial "D". And some restaurant we know who owns it as the name will be mark with "de: such as "De-Neneks" or "de" something..sheeshhh.

No matter..this restaurant is located in Setapak area and it is a 2 plus 1..eat and sauna, sort of spa and getting fat. The food..I give it a 5 stars, delicious, yummy and most of all its not expensive. Total all just for 7 peopple and with more 3 more order of western food cost around RM85++ only.

Atmosphere is very nice and cosy. They have sitting, room, air-cond and this cosy bersila type middle east setting.

There are middle-eastern dishes also like Samarkand stew and nasi Bukhara.

Jalan-jalan Cari Makan - Lanz's Version 1.0

Yeap..this time around we are going to just walk-walk find food. Sort of a restaurant review. heh3x.

Recently we went to Giant hypermarket located in Damansara Damai or something. Its quite near to Ikea or Curve. Well, Giant being Giant is the same design anywhere. We stop for lunch in one of the restaurant in Giant, Ayamas.

The food is quite okay for all variety of chicken product and seafood(fish).Quite expensive for an order of meal for four and 2 separate dishes. Nearly RM100.I overhear one of the customer said to the waiter,I quote " Why aa the picture look very delicious and the real food is not.." ha..ha.. , I guess pakcik that is what we called advertisment!
